I can’t recall a time in my life that I was not in or around the
water. I started jumping into the water (to my mother’s horror)
during my big brother’s swim lessons when I could just walk. At
the age of 3 I finally got to go to swim classes on my own.
By the time I was 5 years old, I was competing in summer league swimming
in Knoxville, TN and continued till I was 11 when my family moved to a
small town with no swim teams! That’s when I started teaching lessons
at age 12 at a local health club, just to be in the water.
Four years later we moved again, this time to Memphis where I swam year
around in the USS program and in the High School League. Lettering as
a Varsity Swimmer and enjoying being the captain of the team, I helped
lead our team to 3 county championships, and a couple of great State meet
finishes!
During high school and college my jobs always included teaching swim
lessons, lifeguarding, teaching water aerobics, coaching swim teams, and
anything else that landed me near the water.
After college I moved to Atlanta where I have taught high school biology
and coached high school swim teams. I’m looking forward to a great
tenure with Atlanta Swim Academy as an instructor. See you in the water!!!
