Atlanta Swim Academy is rapidly expanding and we are looking for Swim Instructors to start immediately. Swim Instructors are the core of Atlanta Swim Academy’s learn to swim program. They teach age- and ability-appropriate progressive skills to swimmers—from basic swimming skills for young swimmers to competition-specific training for advanced swimmers.

Responsibilities and Duties

Lead small groups (4-6) of swimmers through a series of progressively challenging swim skills.
Plan and effectively organize class time through lesson plans.
Teach and lead with encouragement and positive reinforcement.
Provide for consistency in instruction by working each assigned lesson.
Communicate with parents and swimmers on progress towards goals.
Complete any necessary paperwork and reports.
Enforce all facility policies, rules and regulations.
Cover all material required in a level.

Qualifications and Skills

Knowledge of swimming skills and mechanics
Excellent communication skills with children and adults
Comfortable working with children of all ages
Ability to lead and motivate
Available to work at least one 4-hour shift either Sat. or Sun.
Certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR, and First Aid (training and course will be available for candidates after hiring, however; preference will be given to those that have active certification)

Details (subject to change)

  • Primarily looking for part-time swim instructors (15-30 hours/week)
  • Must be open to working at least one weekend shift (Sat or Sun)

Operating Hours of swim lessons

  • Mondays 10am-7pm (or 2 shifts 10-1 or 2-7)
  • Tuesdays 1:00 - 7:00pm
  • Wednesdays 10am-7pm (or 2 shifts 10-1 or 2-7)
  • Thursdays 10am-7pm (or 2 shifts 10-1 or 2-7)
  • Fridays 10am-7pm (or 2 shifts 10-1 or 2-7)
  • Saturdays 9am-5pm (or 2 shifts 9-1 or 12-5)
  • Sundays 9am-5pm (or 2 shifts 9-1 or 12-5)


To provide a safe, healthy, fun and enjoyable environment in the water, while introducing young people to swimming and competition. Instructors provide inter personal and social development for a lifetime of skills to your students, to strive for 100% customer satisfaction, and to ensure their compliance with ASA’s philosophy and teaching techniques.


Teach small groups (4-6) of swimmers according to the ASA Way
Daily set-up and break-down of equipment for swim program
Manage time during class while teaching curriculum based activities
Communicate with parents and swimmers on progress towards goals
Commit to working at least one 4 hour shift on either Saturday or Sunday.
Attend staff meetings as scheduled
Participate in organization wide events, including but not limited to Customer Service Party and Underwater Tree Party.
Respond to emergencies in accordance with the facility emergency action plan.
Enforce all aquatics facility policies, rule and regulations.
Participate in all in-service trainings.

• Professional, outgoing, energetic, self-motivated and personable
• Engages and demonstrates a high level of customer care/service with every member and guest. We create relationships with our swimmers.
• Assists in providing a clean and safe environment for our families, members and guests (including viewing room, pool deck, parking lots, bathrooms, etc)
• Arrives at ASA ready to begin their shift at the appropriate time, complying with ASA uniform and dress code. Follows appropriate guidelines for breaks.
• Maintains a professional attitude and behavior in their interactions swimmers and guests, fellow employees and management.
• Follows established guidelines for documentation and communication.
• Shows initiative in the performance of their shift responsibilities.
• Follows policies, procedures, and teaching standards, according to ASA Staff Policy and Manuals


• Must be minimum of 16 years old
• Certification: Lifeguard certification with acceptable organization
• Completed instructor training during orientation and probationary period.
• Experience leading activities for groups of children in a formal setting (Camp, Sunday School, Club, Afterschool Program etc.)
• Formal swim background (lessons as a student or teacher, summer league, competition or WSI)
• Maintains weekend commitment of Saturday or Sunday

Working Environment

Physical Effort
As swim program staff, you must stand and/or remain in a pool for a significant period of time without a break. Additional physical efforts may include walking, climbing stairs, bending over, reaching overhead, crouching, kneeling, balancing, pushing or pulling, lifting or carrying weighted items, repetitive use of hands, arms, legs, and hand/eye coordination.

Mental Effort
You must be confident in working with families, children and co-workers. In order to communicate effectively in person and over the phone you must possess excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills. This includes concentrating amid distractions, remembering names and details, and making decisions.
