Shrimp

Shrimps

For parents and children ready to have fun while exploring the water and build a solid foundation to swimming(30 min).

Swimmers learn to float, kick, scoop and blow bubbles. Parents learn how reinforce swimmer development and about water safety.

For toddlers who are ready to swim without a parent, and have fun while learning the foundations of swimming

Guppies establish water acclimation through floating while learning to be safe in and around water. Swimmers spend time exploring the pool while developing water confidence.

Preschoolers

Reusable Swim Diapers are required for preschool swimmers who are not yet potty-trained. Goggles are recommended for Barnacles, Seahorses, and Angelfish, and are required for Otters. Each week, at least one skill will be performed without goggles.

Introduction to fundamental swimming skills for preschoolers. Barnacles must be able to participate in class without parent assistance.

Recommended Equipment: Goggles

Barnacles build skills for swimming on front and back, while learning water safety. Swimmers move through the water using arms and legs while blowing bubbles. They are learning to float on front and back, as well as swimming to the wall and climbing out.

Class Goals:

  • Independent floating on front and back
  • Scooping arms, kicking, and bubbles on their front
  • Kicking on back
  • Submerges nose and eyes with ease
  • Jumps in and climbs out, no assistance

Seahorse

Seahorses

3-5 years 4:1 ratio

For swimmers who have completed Barnacles level skills and are ready to swim distances greater than 10 feet.

Recommended Equipment: Goggles

Water confidence is developed through use of noodles, kick boards, and other equipment. Swimmers increase endurance to swim 20 feet on front with face in water and “reaching” arms, and “penguin” arms on back.

Class Goals:

  • Front and back glides
  • Float, swim, float
  • Beginner freestyle for 20 feet
  • Independently swim 20 feet on back
  • Seated dives

Angelfish

3-5 years 6:1 ratio

For swimmers who have achieved Seahorse level of swimming. Swimmers must be able to swim on their front for 20 feet without assistance, float and kick independently on their back. Can jump in and return to the surface on their own.

Recommended Equipment: Goggles and swim caps for swimmers with longer hair

Independent swimming is the focus of this level. Swimmers improve arm and leg coordination and develop their own rhythm while swimming freestyle and backstroke. Skills continue to develop as muscle memory increases.

Class Goals:

  • Streamlines, kicks, and propulsion.
  • Rhythmic freestyle 20 feet.
  • Beginners backstroke 20 feet
  • Seated dives

Otters

4-6 years 6:1 ratio

Swimmers must be recommended for this level by their Angelfish instructor. Otters must be able to swim 20 feet freestyle and 20 feet beginning backstroke, with ease and total comfort.

Recommended Equipment: Fins, goggles and swim caps for swimmers with long hair

Otters focus on side breathing with freestyle arms and a nice easy backstroke with big arms are the focus in this level. Fins are introduced at this level. Elementary backstroke and whip kick are introduced as well. Lots to work on as swimmers continue to build coordination and endurance.

  • Streamline into Freestyle and Backstroke
  • Beginning of whip kick, 20 feet
  • Elementary Backstroke, 20 feet
  • Seated and kneeling dives, depth appropriate

School Age

Goggles are recommended for Hesitant Flounders and Fearless Flounders. Fins and goggles are required for levels Triggerfish and higher. Each week, at least one skill will be performed without goggles. Swimmers maybe be evaluated for SwimFIT or Swim Team Trials after Manta Rays and upon recommendation from their instructor and a Swim Program Supervisor.

For timid beginners needing a slow introduction to water skills.

Focus is on water adjustment and water confidence. Basic skills are introduced in preparation for Fearless Flounders

Fearless Flounders

6-12 years 4:1 ratio

For the eager student, ready to jump in and learn proper form for freestyle and backstroke. Elementary backstroke and whip kick are introduced, along with diving and treading.

Fearless Flounders develop fundamental skills for freestyle and backstroke. Both elementary backstroke and whip kick are introduced, along with diving and treading.

Triggerfish

6-12 years 6:1 ratio

Triggerfish is the next step for both Otters and Flounders. Swimmers must be able to independently swim at least 20 feet freestyle with side breathing and 20 feet backstroke; and have a basic understanding of whip kick and elementary backstroke.

Recommended Equipment: Fins and Goggles

Advanced beginner swimmers will refine backstroke with body roll and freestyle with bi-lateral rotary breathing, developing whip kick and improving endurance on all strokes. Fins are introduced for leg strength, endurance and improved ankle flexibility.

  • Circle swimming
  • Streamline into Freestyle and Backstroke, 60 feet
  • Competitive Whip Kick/Breaststroke kick, 30 feet
  • Elementary backstroke, 30 feet
  • Kneeling and compact dives

Sea Lions

6-12 years 6:1 ratio

Swimmers must be able to swim freestyle 60 feet with bi-lateral rotary breathing, 60 feet backstroke with body roll, and have flexed feet with whip kick/breaststroke kick.

Recommended Equipment: Fins and Goggles

Swimmers increase distance for freestyle and backstroke, learn breaststroke and introduced to dolphin kick. Diving, open turns, treading and circle swimming continue to improve.

Class Goals:

  • Underwater push offs with Dolphin kicks into strokes, 90 feet
  • Coordinated Breaststroke with legal kick, 60 feet
  • Treading using whip and scissor kicks, 3 minutes
  • Compact and standing dives
  • Swim -Tread - Swim

Manta Ray

Manta Rays

6-12 years 6:1 ratio

Swimmers must be recommended for this level by their Sea Lions instructor. Swimmers must be able to swim 75 feet freestyle and backstroke, 60 feet breaststroke, 30 feet dolphin kick with kick board, and be able to tread for 3 minutes. All skills must be completed without fins.

Introduction to lap and competitive swimming. Butterfly is introduced while students continue refining freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. Students learn to flip in the water and perform competitive dives. SwimFIT readiness upon instructor recommendation.

  • Master circle swimming and Endurance training
  • Introduction to Butterfly
  • Flips in water while swimming
  • Compact and racing dives
  • Continuous swim 900 feet (300 yards)

Dolphins

6-12 years 6:1 ratio

Swimmers must be recommended for this level by their Manta Rays instructor. Swimmers must be able to complete 150 feet each of freestyle and backstroke, 75 feet breaststroke and butterfly, and be able to tread for 4 minutes. Skills must be achieved without fins.

Recommended Equipment: Fins and Goggles

Drills for each stroke are used to build endurance. Swimmers focus on refining the four competitive strokes, correct turns for all strokes and individual medleys. SwimFIT and Swim Team readiness upon instructor recommendation.

Class Goals:

  • Refine all four competitive strokes
  • Racing starts: Grab, track, and Backstroke
  • Pace clock reading for sets and workouts
  • Flip turns
  • Continuous swim 1,200 feet (400 yards)

Reef Sharks

6-14 years 6:1 ratio

Swimmers must be recommended for this level by their Dolphins instructor. Students must be able to swim 300 feet each of freestyle and backstroke, 150 feet each of breaststroke and butterfly, and tread for 5 minutes.

Recommended Equipment: Fins and Goggles

For the expert swimmers interested in continued development of swimming skills and water safety awareness. Students improve ability to swim long distances with ease and efficiency. Swimmers in Reef Sharks are prepared for SwimFIT and Swim Team.

Class Goals:

  • Interval training using pace clock
  • Drills for all four competitive strokes
  • Individual medleys with correct strokes and turns
  • Introduction to Jr. Lifeguarding
  • Continuous swim 1,500 feet (500 yards)
